When buying ginger, make sure it doesn’t have any wrinkles. And that it is neither too soft nor moldy.

The ginger you are going to use should be firm. It must have a green part, which is the root.

If the root has several heads, you can cut them off and put them in different pots. This will give you several plants.

It is very important to buy it in a safe place and preferably from an organic food store.

We can easily find it on the market, but  it won’t necessarily be good for the crop. Stores tend to sprinkle it with a growth inhibitor, which prevents it from germinating even if planted in the ground.

If you can’t find it anywhere other than in supermarkets, at least be sure to follow the following recommendations and, before planting, leave it overnight in water to remove pesticides and other impurities.

You will need to plant

  • 1 piece of ginger rhizome.
  • A pot or kettle 40 cm deep and as wide as possible.
  • 1 dose of potting soil or earthworm humus.
  • 3 doses of organic soil.

How to grow it, step by step

  1. Soak the ginger root in lukewarm water overnight, so it’s ready to sow.
  2. Fill the pot or pot with one dose of potting soil or earthworm humus and three doses of organic soil. Take into account that the soil should be spongy and well ventilated, so that it can drain water well.
  3. Put the ginger root in the soil, head up, and fill with soil an inch or two.
  4. Moisten the earth, then put the pot with the ginger in a warm place, but without excess heat.
  5. Keep the soil moist at all times.
  6. It is best to keep the ginger during the first stage of development, in a place where it receives little light and at a temperature of 20 ° C. It should never be at a temperature of less than 10 ° C.

Ginger is a slow growing plant that requires moderate amounts of heat and humidity.

From the moment it is sown, you need to make sure that the soil is permanently moist and the plant is at the right temperature.

About 3 or 4 months after sowing, you can already pick a few small pieces.

To do this, separate the soil a little from the edge and you will find the rhizomes there. Cut off the necessary amount and cover again with soil so that it continues to grow.
