8 Tips For Making Better Decisions

To make better decisions, you need to analyze your thoughts and manage your priorities realistically.

In life, everything is decision. Every day we have thousands of decisions to make, some trivial ones and some really important ones.

Whether you are an entrepreneur or an employee, single or married, whether you live with your parents or with your partner, you are called upon to continually make decisions.

Many people find it difficult to analyze a situation clearly and therefore need help. Some people fail to make decisions because they have become accustomed to others doing it for them. Either way, we recommend that you follow the tips below, which can help you make better decisions.

Let’s see together, in this article, 8 tips to make better decisions.

1. Don’t be afraid of the consequences

Every decision has its pros and cons: buying a car, a place to live, getting married…  A choice involves loss and gain. Almost always we go for the option that we think will make us happier.

However, loss aversion and the fear of making mistakes are very influential when it comes to making a decision. This is why we must keep in mind that each choice brings about a reaction, good or bad.

2.Identify the goal

When we are faced with a situation that requires an important decision, we must have our goal in mind. This will allow us to realize in which direction the choice that we are going to take will lead us. The goal must be present in the decision-making process.

3. Empower yourself

One of the reasons that prevents us from making the right decision is the feeling of feeling stuck with the choice made (or that we are going to make). Being responsible for your actions involves knowing what to do if something goes wrong, and also congratulating yourself if everything is fine.

Getting involved in your actions is fundamental. If you realize that you haven’t made the right decision, know that feeling guilty and throwing stone is no use. The best thing to do is to seek to resolve the situation and learn from your mistakes.

4. Trust your intuition

We tend to think that in order to make better decisions, you have to analyze every aspect over several days, or even weeks. However, we do not always have this time, and sometimes we have to act as quickly as possible. This does not mean that we are necessarily going to make a mistake; it’s a good way to learn to let yourself be guided by your  intuition.

5. Examine the options

This advice is not contrary to that of following your intuition; these two tips are complementary. When we are faced with a problem, it is normal to analyze the problem from our own point of view. What if we looked at this problem from a different perspective?

Sometimes it is very helpful to consider other options  to make the process easier. Critical thinking can very often be detrimental to the decision-making process.

6. Also consider your emotions

To make better decisions, you don’t just have to listen to your reason; you also have to leave space for your feelings. It’s true that in many cases emotions can play a trick on us, but they can also come in handy when we don’t know which path to take.

Keep in mind that when we are angry, anxious, or stressed, we tend to make bad decisions. These emotions cloud judgment. Anger can cause us to be impulsive and more prone to risk-taking.

7. Ask for help when you need it.

There is a very big difference between depending on people to make a decision and seeking advice when we are not sure we are making the right decision.

In the first case, we get rid of our obligation and thus avoid thinking of a solution to solve our problem. In the second case, we work as a team and get our brains to consider other options.

Very often, the gaze of a third party is what we need to clarify our ideas and make the right choice.

8. Reduce your options

If we have twenty shades of one color available to paint the children’s room, it is very likely that we will spend a week wondering which color we should choose. When we have fewer options, it is easier to rule out some.

The more options you have, the harder your brain works, and the more time you waste. You will probably not be able to make the best decision under these conditions. Therefore, make sure to minimize the options available to you before making a choice.
